Science on Tap: Concussions will feature a panel of local experts from diverse perspectives who will answer audience questions and discuss myths vs. facts around concussions. Come get all your questions about this fascinating topic answered!

Panelists for this evening include:

• Samantha Bahan is the Concussion Service Program Coordinator at Brain Care Centre. She worked as a Service Coordinator for individuals with moderate to severe brain injuries before taking over the Concussion Service Program in January 2018. In addition to her client work, she also does all of Brain Care Centre’s concussion outreach and education in the Edmonton service region, including hosting Brain Care Centre’s webinar series Concussions and You.

• Dr. Shelby Karpman is a Family and Sport Medicine Physician in Edmonton. He currently practices as a Family Physician as well as a Primary Care Consultant at both the University of Alberta Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic and the Healthpointe Medical Centre. Over his career Dr. Karpman has served as Team Physician with the U of A Golden Bears Hockey, Wrestling and Track team, The Edmonton Oil Kings Junior Hockey Team, Trappers Baseball Team and the National Jr Hockey Team.

• Dr. Martin Mrazik is clinical neuropsychologist and an associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta and served as the Clinical Director of the Head Trauma Program and Chief Psychologist at the Millard Center in Edmonton, Alberta for 5 years. His primary research interests include sport concussion, traumatic brain injury, and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Dr. Mrazik also serves as a consultant to the NHL and CFL regarding sports related concussions.

Science on Tap is hosted several times a year by TELUS World of Science – Edmonton for you to engage with speakers on topics surrounding the latest and greatest research going on in our community, and learn how it relates to you.
