For the University of Alberta, 2017 has been a monumental year in space research and exploration. The launch of AlbertaSat’s Ex-Alta 1 in May is yet another milestone in UAlberta’s legacy of excellence—from alumni who helped build Canadarm to the CaNoRock collaboration.
In celebration of this remarkable year, the Faculty of Science and the Public Science Institute are pleased to welcome Commander Chris Hadfield to Edmonton to mark World Space Week 2017.

Born and raised in Ontario, Hadfield was the first Canadian to walk in space, as well as the first Canadian commander of the International Space Station in 2013. A hero to space enthusiasts everywhere Hadfield is also passionate about bringing education, science, and research to inquiring minds in Canada and around the world.
His talk will focus on STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and tools and ideas for personal growth and achievement in learning.
“Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts,” Hadfield said. “ It is about laying the groundwork for others’ success, and then standing back and letting them shine.”
