If you’re looking for the Nerd equivalent of the Oscars, it’s got to be the Hugo awards. The ceremony was live-streamed last night and most of you out there likely missed it (the last ever Tragically Hip show is a hard thing to not watch if you’re a Canadian).
The highlight for Edmonton is that local Super-Nerds Erika Ensign (of Verity!, Lazy Doctor Who, Babylon 5 Audio Guide, Total Party Kill & more) & Steven Schapansky (Radio Free Skaro & Lazy Doctor Who) won for their work on Uncanny Magazine. If you’ve never read it, it’s a great source for Sci-Fi & Fantasy and it’s tended to by a team that quite obviously cares about the subject matter.
Congrats guys! (Remember that you have to refer to them as “Hugo Winners” every time to write their names now…. guess I’ll set up a new macro)
