Edmonton Fringe Festival Preview-Aug. 13

Another very full day of Nerdiness at the Fringe coming up on the 13th!

2:30pm-3:30pm: Hitodama: Last year we brought you Oni, our SEXY Japanese shadow show. ***** Edmonton Sun. Now we’re back with a SCARY Japanese shadow show! Prepare for horror and hilarity as we sit in the dark telling hair-raising tales of vengeful spirits and murderous monsters! With some sexy stuff thrown in too!

3:30pm-4:30pm: Girl’s End: A Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse GIRL’S END is A Comedic, One Woman Musical that locks the audience in a storage unit with one exceptional apocalypse survivor as she discovers her greatest asset is her impenetrable spirit. Her resilience is inspiring and her story is hilarious. Featuring music by Edmonton native Daniel Abrahamson!

3:30pm-5:00pm: 70 Scenes of Halloween Inventively theatrical, hilarious and creepy, 70 Scenes blends realism with psychological fantasy and a dollop of grisly horror. A suburban couple sits at home on Halloween watching TV, drinking and fighting, while mysterious beings float through the air. Directed by Dave Horak (Fatboy, Bomb-itty of Errors, Burning Bluebeard).

4:15pm-5:30pm: In The Trenches: A Double Feature A delightful duet of original comedies! An apocalyptic war zone becomes a slapstick extravaganza as three clown soldiers take cover in an abandoned trench. Then, we revamp the raw Italian Street Theatre, Commedia dell’Arte, to tell the story of a young woman fighting an engagement arranged by her miserly father.

4:30pm-5:30pm:yegDND combines the world of improv with Dungeons and Dragons. Six heroes go on a quest to save the world, and everything is made up on the spot. Stage combat, musical numbers and giant D20 dice that you get to roll!

4:40pm-5:30pm:Asking the internet: the Ya-Hoo Answers: Asking the Internet is a (dance) commentary about online forums. Trapped in a 1990s time warp, three teens are confronted by a spandex wearing pied piper along the information superhighway. Join them as they navigate the World Wide Web of questions and answers.

5:00pm-5:55pm:Prepare For The Worst! Wives and Mothers: Are you prepared for the Nuclear Holocaust? Is your Bomb Shelter in order? And your tinned food reserve? Most important: How does your hair look? Radiation is no excuse to look less than perfect. Preparing for the end of the world has never been so much fun!

5:00pm-6:00pm: Wolfman Crossing Wolfman Crossing – it’s a little town along a lonely highway in northern Alberta. And it’s sure one lousy place to hitch a ride. See – the town’s name comes from a legendary local monster. And now seven highway travellers have gone missing. Is Wolfie back on the prowl?

5:15pm-6:15pm: Into The Blue A meteor crashes into a small town theatre, creating chaos, light and life. Into the Blue is an optimistic look at the randomness of the universe and the way people deal with life, death, and the unexpected.

6:15pm-7:15pm: The Jupiter Rebellion: A Zach Zultana Adventure This action packed one man comedy has got everything you’d expect from a big budget silver screen spectacular: Action… romance… socialist undertones… cool special effects… a stool. “ ★★★★★ The best solo show at the Fringe” – Edmonton Sun “ ★★★★★ An uproariously hilarious space opera of the highest quality” – Ottawa Tonight

6:30pm-7:25pm: Hey ’90s Kids, You’re Old What if our favourite ’90s characters had to grow up, like we did? This nostalgic comedy celebrates the last true decade by blending ’90s pop culture with the present.

6:45pm-7:45pm: Curious Contagious: A surreal quest into the microscopic innards of a unicorn. We’re going viral! Funny, beautiful and strange, with handmade layered projections and original music. A new large-scale shadow theatre spectacle from the creators of “Caws & Effect”

6:45pm-7:45pm: Nerdf*cker The spectators are early, her lover is late, and the players are due any minute. Not the best time to question what she’s doing here, half-naked in a room full of strangers, but with 60 minutes before the game starts, it’s all the time she has left.

7:00pm-8:00pm: FRAZ vs. The Future Vancouver comedian Fraz Wiest presents a one-man comedic time-travel odyssey that sees him take on technology, social media and getting old in an all-out fight to the finish! You’ll never look at tomorrow the same way again!

7:00pm-8:00pm:TESLA EX MACHINA In 1892, famed inventor Nikola Tesla willed his mind and memories back from partial amnesia. Ricky Coates examines science and humanity in a one-man biographical story, featuring live electrical experiments!

9:00pm-9:00pm:UNDEAD OR ALIVE: An Apocalypse Survival Guide It’s a seminar. It’s a play. It’s zombie tag. Doomsday prepper Tori Mountain is back after a successful fringe run in 2013. Think you’re ready for the Zombie Apocalypse? Test your knowledge and see if you survive. Will you be Undead or Alive?

8:00pm-9:15pm: Not a Nefarious Plan: An Ordinary Play About Superheroes: Uncover the mystery of a plucky teen, a secret journal, and a ragtag group of superheroes in this play which is definitely not a trap set by Dr. Apocalypse. He isn’t even involved! No plans for world domination here! Just good clean fun. This venue is outdoors, so dress accordingly.

8:00pm-10:10pm: The Grave Digger The Grave Digger is a musical black comedy about a fine arts student and part-time grave keeper who has recently discovered her ability to talk to the dead. When a literal ghost from her past comes to haunt her she struggles to come to terms with her new found “gift.”

9:15pm-10:00pm: Rear Entry: The Improvised Puppet Show Seams will bust and fur will fly as the The Odd-Lot Puppetry Co presents improv comedy like you’ve never seen it before! Raunchy, rude and hilarious, special guests join the cast nightly in this all new show that’s guaranteed to be stuffed with laughter.

9:15pm-10:45pm: The Adventurous Times of Kevin Grimes David Belke’s legendary radio theatre serial adventure returns! Join mild mannered city employee Kevin Grimes as he suddenly finds himself thrust into a time travelling comedy/adventure fighting evil across the centuries and around the streets of Edmonton. Ten episodes of high flying thrills, heartwarming romance and unexpected laughs.

11:30pm-12:30am: Thunderprov: Sorry, Not Sorry presents Thunderprov! This longform improv show stars an ensemble cast who combine humour and play to create stories ranging from the spooky and supernatural to the wacky and whimsical. One night may be a murder mystery, the next a dating game show, but every night’s a laugh!

11:55pm-1:00am: Call Me Kirk- The Ultimate Trek The ultimate TREK where everything happens! From the promoters of One Man Star Wars and Jake’s Gift.
