Have you seen the lineup for the Fringe? The number of shows in it is incredible and let’s be honest… You’ll never be able to see all the ones you’d like to see. We’re going to help you plan your Fringe day by day to make sure you don’t miss out on the Nerdiness. The parade & opening ceremonies start at 7pm and 7:30pm, respectively and then there’s 30+ shows starting at 8pm on August 11th. Here’s a few highlights just for that day….
8:00pm-9:00pm: Kill Hard: Live. Improvised. Action Movie. On Stage. A completely improvised Action Movie where our two stars take on all the roles, all the fights, and all of the sexual tension. Expect guns, bad guys, and fights in this over the top tribute to those cheesy action movies you love.
8:00pm-9:00pm: Thunderprov: Sorry, Not Sorry presents Thunderprov! This longform improv show stars an ensemble cast who combine humour and play to create stories ranging from the spooky and supernatural to the wacky and whimsical. One night may be a murder mystery, the next a dating game show, but every night’s a laugh!
8:00pm-9:15pm: Not a Nefarious Plan: An Ordinary Play About Superheroes: Uncover the mystery of a plucky teen, a secret journal, and a ragtag group of superheroes in this play which is definitely not a trap set by Dr. Apocalypse. He isn’t even involved! No plans for world domination here! Just good clean fun. This venue is outdoors, so dress accordingly.
9:30pm-10:30pm: Curious Contagious: A surreal quest into the microscopic innards of a unicorn. We’re going viral! Funny, beautiful and strange, with handmade layered projections and original music. A new large-scale shadow theatre spectacle from the creators of “Caws & Effect”
10:00-10:45pm: Red Shirt Diaries:Laugh long and prosper! The Red Shirt Diaries is an improvised trek through space starring the hilarious hive-mind of Edmonton’s longest-running improv company – Rapid Fire Theatre. Join the intrepid crew on their multi-media journey; every episode is different!
10:00pm-11:00pm:Asking the internet: the Ya-Hoo Answers: Asking the Internet is a (dance) commentary about online forums. Trapped in a 1990s time warp, three teens are confronted by a spandex wearing pied piper along the information superhighway. Join them as they navigate the World Wide Web of questions and answers.
10:00pm-11:00pm: The Dragon: A terrifying, tragic tale of loss and madness where Knights are brave, Dragons and Monsters really exist and Cats just want to be warm by a stove.(well,no change here really) Dead Rabbits Theatre presents a high-powered, hilarious and touching tale laced with Eastern European music and physical theatre.
11:00pm-12:00am: Harold of Galactus Chris Craddock and Mark Meer improvise the entire career of a new superhero…created by the audience! A loving salute to the world of secret identities, atomic accidents, and unbridled adventure! Excelsior! ‘Nuff said! “…improv virtuosos…”
